Students at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital are subject to and should follow the same policies as those for staff. All clinical policies are available on the Hennick Bridgepoint Portal.


If a learner requires a medical or a learning accommodation we require the College/University to let us know well in advance of placement detailing what accommodations are needed. Hennick Bridgepoint will make all reasonable efforts to meet these needs.

Hennick Bridgepoint may require the removal of any learner from placement if it becomes apparent that a safety plan is required and we have not been given the opportunity to consider this in advance.

Hours of work

Students learn at Hennick Bridgepoint under the direction of one or more named supervisors. For clinical students, all patient care including documentation must be done under the supervision of your supervisor. You are generally not permitted to be in your placement area outside of your normal shift times. Space is available in the Clinical Library for project work/study outside of placement hours.

Our nursing students work in 8-hour shifts: day shift from 07:00 to 15:00 or evening shift from 15:00 to 23:00. Medical and Health Disciplines learners usually follow the schedule of their supervisor.

Dress guidelines

Hennick Bridgepoint expects all students to dress appropriately for the functions they are performing, while also taking into consideration the cultural and care needs of our patients. Hennick Bridgepoint does not have a scrub program; learners who wish to wear scrubs they must supply their own.

Dress considered inappropriate includes exercise clothing (sweats, leggings, etc.), casual summer clothing (shorts and tank tops), and clothing that is damaged (torn, faded, or patched) or has inappropriate slogans or pictures.

In addition, clothing must adhere to Occupational Health and Safety and Public Health regulatory requirements:

  • Students in direct patient care areas must not wear dangling, excessive or distracting jewelry such as earrings, necklaces, or bracelets.
  • Footwear must have closed heel and toe, a non-slip sole, and a low heel height. Additional safety features may be required in specific working areas, and students will be required to comply with the area's specific policy.
  • Hairnets must be worn where designated by Occupational Health and Safety or Public Health regulations.
  • Hair must be short or tied back.
  • Nails must be short and trimmed, without nail polish.

Hennick Bridgepoint is a scent-controlled environment; do not wear scented products to placement.

Identification and Access Cards

Learners are required to wear both a school identification badge and a Hennick Bridgepoint green student access card at all times while in the hospital. The school badge must clearly identify their faculty/student status, and include at least their first name and the name of the school.

Students and Instructors should get their access cards on their first day of placement. Hennick Bridgepoint access cards are available between 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday from the Security office located at the Information Desk on the ground floor. You may phone Security at ext. 7012 to ensure that a team member is available to assist.

Hennick Bridgepoint access cards must be returned in person to Security on the final day of your placement. There is a fine for loss or non-return.

Please report any difficulties in accessing necessary workspaces via the access cards to the Academic Office.

Immunization requirements

All incoming learners should note the requirements below. Learners must meet the requirements before they start placement.


Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital influenza vaccination policy strongly recommends that all learners be vaccinated against influenza if attending placement during flu season (Oct-May).

Occupational Health Mandatory Requirements

All learners at Hennick Bridgepoint must complete all of the below requirements prior to the start of placement. Learners are not required to present proof at the start of placement, but should be ready to produce it at any time upon request by Occupational Health.

Proof of immunity to the below (either immunization certificates or antibody titre blood test results):

  • COVID-19
  • Measles/Mumps/Rubella
  • Varicella (Chickenpox)
  • Hepatitis B
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis

Evidence of tuberculosis (TB) testing:

  • 2-Step TB test in the last 12 months OR
  • If 2-Step test is more than 12 months old, 1-Step TB test in the last 12 months AND
  • If any TB test positive, also a chest x-ray

Learners should note that Bridgepoint Occupational Health Department is not able to provide immunizations or TB tests for students.

If you become ill on placement

If you have symptoms of illness on a day that you are scheduled to be at Hennick Bridgepoint, please stay at home and notify the Occupational Health department at 416-461-8252 ext. 2082. Occupational Health will provide guidance on steps to take to ensure a safe return to placement. Keep in regular contact with your supervisor so they are aware of your absence and planned return date. Do not return to placement until cleared by Occupational Health.

Injury or accident while on placement

If you are injured or are involved in an incident at Hennick Bridgepoint, inform your supervisor immediately. Your supervisor will inform Occupational Health and the Academic Office. Occupational Health will provide immediate treatment as needed and guidance on next steps. We will then work together to complete appropriate Hennick Bridgepoint, college/university and WSIB forms and ensure a safe return to work. An investigation of the incident will follow to determine if there are system issues that could be improved to reduce the chance of recurrence in the future.

Mask-fit testing

TAHSN has recommended that hospitals continue to take responsibility for mask fit testing appropriate learners through 2021. Mask fit testing at Sinai Health is limited to those learners who are likely to require an N95 in order to reach their placement objectives (caring for patients on airborne precautions and/or performing Aerosol-Generating Medical Procedures).

As part of learner onboarding, the Academic Office will verify each incoming learner’s mask fit status. If the learner does not have a valid mask fit, or is not fit to a mask that is available at the site, a test/retest will be considered based on discussion with the learner’s supervisor. If indicated, the Academic Office will notify Occupational Health and Safety of the need to test/retest, and an appointment for fitting will be booked for the learner early in their placement.

Police check

Hennick Bridgepoint does not require a police check or vulnerable sector check at this time.
